Fixed-fare quotes in Manchester Airport.

  • Fixed fare — no surge
  • Licensed, DBS-checked drivers
  • Flight tracking included

Manchester Airport is the third-busiest airport in the UK and the gateway to the North of England, handling roughly 30 million passengers a year across Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. When you're travelling with luggage, running to an early check-in slot, or arriving jet-lagged from a long-haul flight, the last thing you want is a scramble for a ride. A pre-booked Manchester Airport transfer takes that stress off the table: fixed fare, known driver, live flight tracking, and a vehicle sized for your party.

At CabsOn we've built our airport service around the three things travellers tell us matter most — reliability, honest pricing, and someone who actually turns up. Every transfer is quoted as a fixed all-inclusive fare that includes the driver's time, fuel, tolls and airport drop-off charge. Every arrival is tied to your live flight number, so we know when you're really landing rather than when you were meant to. And every driver is professionally vetted, DBS-checked and licensed by a UK local authority — no gig-economy pool of strangers.

Whether you're flying out from Wilmslow first thing on a Monday, coming home to Rochdale after a fortnight in Spain, or moving a team of eight from a conference in the city centre to a red-eye flight, this page walks through exactly what to expect: fleet choices, terminal logistics, journey times from the main pickup areas around Greater Manchester and the wider North West, and the small details — child seats, waiting time, meet-and-greet — that make the difference between an ordinary ride and a good one.

Where we pick up and drop off across Manchester Airport

Manchester Airport currently operates from Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. Terminal 1 permanently closed in 2024 as part of the airport's £1.3bn transformation programme, with its former airlines redistributed across the two remaining terminals. If your booking references T1, check your latest airline correspondence — you'll now be departing from T2 or T3. Terminal 2 has been substantially expanded and is now the main hub for long-haul and most European carriers, while Terminal 3 continues to handle a range of short-haul and low-cost operators.

For drop-offs, drivers use the designated forecourt at each terminal. Since 2018 there has been a drop-off charge on the forecourt (currently around £6 for a five-minute stay), which is included in every fixed fare we quote — you won't be asked for it separately. For collections, drivers use the short-stay pickup zones rather than the forecourt to avoid the enforcement cameras that penalise waiting on the drop-off ramps. If you've paid for meet-and-greet, the driver parks in the short-stay car park and walks in to arrivals with a name board.

How long the journey takes from around Greater Manchester

Journey times to Manchester Airport are shaped by the M56, M60 and M6, all of which sit on the M56 spur to the terminals. From central Manchester the drive is around 20-30 minutes off-peak and can stretch to 45 minutes in the morning rush. Salford, MediaCityUK and Trafford typically run 25-40 minutes depending on the M60 flow. Stockport is one of our shortest airport runs at 15-25 minutes via the A34 or M60 south. Altrincham, Wilmslow and Cheadle are all within 15-20 minutes of the terminals.

From further afield: Bolton and Bury sit around 40-55 minutes away using the M60 and M56, Rochdale and Oldham are 45-60 minutes, and Warrington is roughly 30-45 minutes via the M56 westbound. We also run regular transfers from further out — Preston, Blackpool, Liverpool, Chester, Sheffield and Leeds — where the fixed-fare model really pays off compared to open-ended metered rides. Whatever your postcode, the app or booking form will show a firm end-to-end time and a firm price before you commit.

The fleet: choosing the right vehicle

Fleet choice matters more for airport work than for local hops, because the wrong vehicle class means either cramming cases onto laps or paying for space you didn't need. Our standard classes include:

  • Saloon — up to four passengers with two large cases plus cabin bags. Best for couples, business travellers and small families with light luggage. The most cost-effective option for the vast majority of Manchester Airport transfers.
  • Estate — up to four passengers with three or four cases. Ideal if you're returning from a long-haul holiday with more luggage than usual, or if you have golf clubs, a bike box or ski bags.
  • MPV — up to five or six passengers with luggage. The right choice for families with a buggy, car seat and multiple cases, or for four adults with a full load.
  • Eight-seater — up to eight passengers plus luggage. Sports teams, extended families, stag and hen parties, corporate groups moving together. Cheaper per head than two separate vehicles.
  • Executive — Mercedes E-Class or BMW 5 Series, suited to client pickups, senior executives, and any journey where the vehicle itself is part of the impression you want to make. For a chauffeur-driven Mercedes S-Class, or an Executive People Carrier (Mercedes V-Class) for a smaller group, just ask when you book.

Fixed fares and how they work

Every transfer is quoted as a fixed fare at the time of booking. That means the price you see is the price you pay — it doesn't move if traffic is heavier than expected, if your flight lands two hours late, or if the meter would have ticked past the estimate. Fixed fares typically vary by route, vehicle class and time of day: a Stockport-to-airport saloon at 10 in the morning sits at the lower end of the range, an eight-seater collection from Preston at 3am sits at the upper end. Night rates (roughly midnight to 06:00) reflect the antisocial-hours premium that all licensed operators charge and are already included in the quote — nothing extra appears at the end.

What's included in every fixed fare: the driver's time, all fuel, all motorway tolls, the airport drop-off charge, the first 45 minutes of waiting time on arrivals (from actual landing time, not scheduled), meet-and-greet where selected, and VAT. What's not included: gratuities, extra waiting time beyond the free allowance, and additional stops added after booking.

Booking lead time and how to book

Airport transfers are best booked at least 12 hours ahead, and 24 hours ahead for large vehicles, wheelchair-accessible transport or early-morning departures before 05:00. Shorter-notice bookings are usually accepted subject to driver availability — the app shows real-time availability so you're not guessing. To book, use the CabsOn website or app and enter your pickup postcode, terminal (T2 or T3), flight number for arrivals, and any preferences like child seats or meet-and-greet. Corporate customers can also book through their account portal for centralised billing and monthly invoicing.

Luggage, seating and vehicle capacity

Airport journeys tend to involve more luggage than a routine local run, so it helps to think about capacity when you book. A saloon comfortably carries two adults with two medium suitcases and cabin bags. An estate suits three passengers with three checked cases, useful for families returning from long-haul holidays. The MPV is our workhorse for four passengers with a full complement of luggage, or two adults with a buggy, car seat and multiple cases. The eight-seater is the choice for larger groups, sports teams and family reunions — the rear rows fold flexibly so you can trade a seat for extra boot space if needed. If you're unsure which class fits your party, describe the number of travellers and cases at the booking stage and we'll advise honestly rather than up-sell you.

Child seats, boosters and family travel

Child seats, high-back boosters and booster cushions are available on request at no additional charge, subject to availability. Please request them when you book — ideally 24 hours before pickup for airport transfers — so the driver can fit and check the seat before you arrive. If you're travelling with an infant carrier of your own, the driver will help you secure it using the vehicle's seatbelt or ISOFIX anchor points where fitted. Buggies fold into the boot on saloon and estate vehicles; for larger travel systems the MPV or eight-seater is the safer choice.

Payment methods and receipts

You can pay by debit or credit card at the time of booking, contactless in the vehicle, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or cash to the driver. Business travellers can settle by corporate account with monthly invoicing — useful if your company already books regular airport runs. A VAT-friendly digital receipt is emailed automatically once the journey completes, and every booking is itemised in your CabsOn account for later download. There is no surcharge for card payments and no hidden booking fee added at checkout.

Cancellation and amendment policy

Life happens — flights get rescheduled, meetings overrun, plans change. You can cancel free of charge up to two hours before your scheduled pickup. Cancellations closer to pickup may attract a partial charge to cover the driver's committed time, but we take a common-sense approach where the reason is genuinely out of your control. Amending pickup time, address or vehicle class before dispatch is free — just call the office or update the booking in the app.

Wheelchair-accessible vehicles

Wheelchair-accessible vehicles (WAV) are available with advance notice. Please book at least 24 hours ahead so we can allocate a suitable vehicle and a driver trained in ramp deployment and wheelchair tie-down. WAVs accommodate most standard manual and powered chairs; if you use a larger mobility scooter, mention the make and dimensions at booking and we'll confirm compatibility. There is no premium fare for accessible transport — you pay the standard fixed rate for the route and vehicle class.

Meet-and-greet, tracking and driver contact

For arrivals at Manchester Airport we monitor your flight in real time using its scheduled arrival number, so an early landing or a 40-minute holding pattern doesn't leave you stranded or worried about missing your slot. The driver's name, mobile number and vehicle registration are sent by SMS and appear in the CabsOn app around 30 minutes before pickup. For meet-and-greet, we hold a name board in the terminal arrivals hall past customs; for kerbside pickup, the driver texts on approach and waits in the designated short-stay collection area rather than the drop-off zone, keeping you clear of enforcement cameras.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I book a Manchester Airport transfer?

For peace of mind we recommend booking at least 12 hours ahead, and 24 hours ahead for early-morning departures, larger vehicles or wheelchair-accessible transport. Shorter-notice bookings are usually possible subject to driver availability — you'll see live availability at checkout.

Do you track my flight if it's delayed or early?

Yes. Every airport booking is linked to your flight number and we monitor its live status. If your flight lands early we adjust the pickup slot; if it's delayed we hold the driver back so you're not billed for waiting time and you're not left waiting for a driver who already left.

How much free waiting time do I get at Manchester Airport?

Airport pickups include around 45 minutes of free waiting from the actual landing time, which covers passport control, baggage reclaim and getting through the terminal. If you clear the terminal faster you can walk straight to the pickup point — no rush.

Which terminals do you serve — is Terminal 1 still open?

We serve Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. Terminal 1 permanently closed in 2024 as part of the airport's £1.3bn transformation programme, so if your booking confirmation still references T1 please check with your airline — flights previously operating from T1 now depart from T2 or T3.

What's the difference between kerbside pickup and meet-and-greet?

Kerbside pickup means the driver waits in the short-stay collection area and texts you when to walk out — the cheaper standard option. Meet-and-greet means the driver parks and meets you inside the terminal arrivals hall with a name board — worth it if you're travelling with children, heavy luggage or elderly relatives.

Are the fares fixed or metered?

Every airport transfer is quoted as a fixed all-inclusive fare at the point of booking. That price covers the driver, vehicle, fuel, tolls and airport drop-off charges. There are no surge multipliers, no per-minute waiting fees during agreed free time, and no surprise additions at the end of the journey.

Can you carry six or more passengers with luggage?

Yes. Our eight-seater vehicles carry up to eight passengers with sensible luggage, or six passengers plus a full luggage load with the rear row folded. For larger sports teams or wedding parties we can arrange a second vehicle to travel in convoy at the same fixed per-vehicle rate.

Do you charge extra for early-morning or late-night pickups?

Fares are fixed by route and vehicle class, but night rates typically apply between around midnight and 06:00 to reflect antisocial-hours driving. The night rate is baked into the quote you see before booking — there's no separate surcharge revealed at the end.
